Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to teach the basic technical principles of image and sound editing and to convey how editing shapes a visual communication product.
Course Content: The Image and Sound Editing course is both theoretical and applied course that examines how to combine audio-visual content to design a video or movie; and teaches the techniques used in this editing process.

Ders Akış Planı

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) What is editing, why is editing being made? What is the editor's role in filmmaking? Introduction to the course. Readings on the topics
2) Historical development of film editing: Kuleshov, Eisenstein, Pudovkin, Griffith Readings on the topics and watching movie parts
3) Reviews on movies. Establishment of filmic time and filmic space. An overview of the interface of Adobe Premiere software. Readings on the topics and watching movie parts
4) Project and sequence settings. Resolution, frame rate, codec information. Readings on the topics
5) Introduction to simple editing: In-out editing, Overwrite edit, insert edit, razor blade Preliminary work on the program.
6) 180 degree rule. Continuity. Editing a sample scene. Readings and watching movies
7) Working with multiple video and audio channels. Transition effects and text animations. Preliminary work on the program.
8) MIDTERM EXAM Readings on the topics
9) Jump Cut, Continuity cut, Parallel cut (cross cut) Video effects, Chroma keying Readings on the topics and preliminary work on the program
10) Color Correction and Grading Preliminary work on the program
11) Sound editing and mixing, noise removal (sound filters), sound transitions Preliminary work on the program.
12) Advanced techniques on audio filters and audio mixing HOMEWORK: Making the sound design of an animated movie Preliminary work on the program.
13) Multi-camera editing Preliminary work on the program.
14) Exporting and transcoding video files, codecs Preliminary work on the program.
