Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The course introduces key theoretical approaches to the study of the increasing hybridization of media and politics, and places current trends in an historical and comparative perspective. Key topics include media-state-relations, election campaigns, social media activism and performances of politicians. The course also explores how both routine politics and political activism develop with and within a diverse media landscape. A specific emphasis is placed on how citizens and social movements use media in political struggles.

Course Content: 1- Theories

2- Intermingle of media and politics and its impact on various political contexts.

3- Social media and the discussion on to what extent is it genuinely functional
in social movements.

1) Students taking this course will be expected to analyze the relationship between media and politics in different settings and from different perspectives and have an in-depth understanding of how and why media structures, media production and media consumption are changing, as well as some of the central effects that these changes have on political communication. Additionally, they will be able to review academic literature, plan and produce case studies in the field of media and politics.

2) Recognizing the interaction of the disciplines of Political Science and International Relations with other social sciences intersecting with themselves (history, sociology, law, economics, psychology, anthropology), to gain the knowledge and skills of evaluation and discussion in the interdisciplinary framework
3) Having to ability to make data collection, analysis and reporting from library and other academic information sources ; make written texts and oral presentations in accordance with academic writing rules in related subjects
4) Opening the way for students to gain research and scientific ethics and to conduct original studies
5) Gaining the ability to analyze and discuss political, social and economic problems in a specific conceptual framework, which are equipped, nationally and internationally, which will maximize the needs of state and non-state institutions.
