Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: It is aimed to construct a design object using different materials in the production of books. It is aimed to produce creative and original book design within the framework of the theme determined by the student himself by using technique, format, form.
Course Content: In the course where it is aimed to solve design problems with book format, the content appropriate to the determined theme is prepared by the student and the three-dimensional book object design is produced as an edition using experimental methods.

1) It develops a design idea that will bring the subject and content to the forefront and turns it into an object.

1) He makes a mock-up application of the designed book and learns different book making techniques.

Ders Akış Planı

Week Subject Related Preparation
1) Introduction of the course,its purpose,processing method and examples. None
2) The history of book design. Evaluation of application studies in the national and historical process. Preliminary readings on the topics
3) Comparison of book types and book designs produced for different fields reading through examples. Examining artist books and original book designs, analyzing the conceptual infrastructure, explanation of the concept of art object. Preliminary readings on the topics
4) Determining the theme for book design, researching the content and collecting data appropriate to the topic. Preliminary readings on the topics
5) To understand the concepts of cover, form, layout, index. Starting the draft study of the contents determined in accordance with the theme. Preliminary readings on the topics. Students are expected to collect content in line with the topic before coming to class.
6) Creating the page structure of books with original production, examining pop-ups, origami and hardcover book covers through examples. Examination of draft studies and their implementation into the implementation process. Students are expected to do draft work in line with the subject before coming to class.
7) Examination of draft studies. Three-dimensional book layout creation, hand-held book planting, binding techniques. Students are expected to do draft work in line with the subject before coming to class.
8) Midterm Exam- Conceptual text and draft-model examination, evaluation. None
9) Sizing work through the model. Discussion and reading on the importance of typography use and selection in book design. Preliminary readings on the topics. Students are expected to collect content in line with the topic before coming to class.
10) Examination of different types of materials and paper and discussion of their impact on book design. Students are expected to examine examples and develop ideas in line with the topic.
11) Application of book design. Students are expected to examine examples and develop ideas in line with the topic.
12) Application of book design. Students are expected to examine examples and develop ideas in line with the topic.
13) Application of book design. Printing techniques, paper weight and color, determination of skin type and cover type. Students are expected to work in accordance with the final project given before coming to class.
14) Discussion of the importance of book cover design and application and evaluation of book cover design. Discussion of the pros and cons of the production of editions and limited editions. Students are expected to work in accordance with the final project given before coming to class.
15) FINAL EXAM-Delivery and Evaluation of Book Designs Students are expected to present the book they have designed in accordance with the determined final project in a three-dimensional way.
