Aim of the Programme

Painting is one of the most rooted pursuits in human history. This occupation, which accompanies the first architectural works and religious places from cave paintings, will become independent from architecture and sculpture, especially as of the 15th century, and become autonomous as a separate branch of art. The invention of oil painting and the application of the perspective that allows to give the third dimension on the two-dimensional surface will increase the applicability of the painting in both religious and non-religious fields. A rich tradition stretching from Michelangelo to Da Vinci to Brueghel and Rembrandt will introduce painting into the world of everyday life. The understandings that started with Impressionism in the 19th century and described as modernism will take painting on a very different route with the efforts of artists such as Picasso at the beginning of the 20th century. The painting department aims to present the development and trends of painting from the history of art and design to today's contemporary art with an interdisciplinary approach, together with an intense workshop.
