Course Objectives: | This lecture is designed to explore the interaction of the city's history and architecture. The course aims to discuss dual concepts such as history-historicity, historicity-monument, place-identity and continuity, place-architecture through the city of Istanbul as a sample area. |
Course Content: | The content of this lecture covers a periodical view of urban history starting from the prehistoric period. The period before it became the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, the period when it was the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, the period of the Ottoman Empire and today's city of Istanbul constitute the theoretical content of this lecture. It will be supported by excursions to the places in the Historical Peninsula of Istanbul that form the "Istanbul identity". |
